According to Sign On San Diego, a local animal feed shop, Kahoots Feed & Pet Store, was victim to a fire Monday morning. The flames spread from the store to two homes, displacing two families, Cal Fire officials said.
The blaze ignited when bales of hay caught fire in the shed at about 2:35 am, Cal Fire Captain Mike Mohler reported. Six adults and three children were relocated from their homes. They will not be able to return because of the amount of damage, leaving the homes uninhabitable.
Although the fire in the main building was under control, the hay bins in the shed continued to burn, so firefighters had to tear it down. Since the flames were deep within the dry and compact hay, it needed to be extinguished carefully and methodically, Mohler said. Kahoots Feed & Pet Store is still open for business and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
